Apple is changing its smartwatch policy

Ana sayfa / News

Code revealed in the latest iOS 26.1 beta suggests that iPhones will have increased compatibility with other smartwatches. The new findings point to a “notification forwarding” feature that will allow iPhone notifications to be displayed on non-Apple accessories.

According to the latest information, users can only forward notifications to one device at a time. Furthermore, the new “AccessoryExtension” framework simplifies iPhone pairing with third-party accessories. These developments are directly related to the obligations imposed on Apple under the European Union’s Digital Markets Act.

This law requires Apple to facilitate pairing and data transfer between iPhones and third-party devices. Apple must make the necessary changes by the end of the year. It is not yet certain whether these features will be included in iOS 26.1, which will be released next month. It is also possible that the app will only be available to EU users.

This new feature is a significant development, especially for users of Android Wear OS-based smartwatches. Until now, iPhones have been limited to working with watches other than the Apple Watch.

The new notification forwarding feature will now allow users to monitor messages, calls, and app notifications on their iPhones via their preferred third-party watches. This change is seen as a significant step toward a more open Apple ecosystem and could increase competition in the smartwatch market.
