In 2015, Apple changed its keyboard design and switched to the ‘butterfly’ keyboard. Although it was much thinner, it caused problems for users. The free repair program launched in this context will end in the coming months. The last warning was made for various MacBook owners with butterfly keyboards.
Apple will end free repair for butterfly keyboard in November
Apple users with 2019 MacBook Pro models have a new warning for “butterfly” keyboard repair. These keyboards, which break down in many users and are almost a nuisance for Apple, will be removed from the free repair program after November.
Starting in 2015, Apple switched to a new keyboard design using the “butterfly” mechanism on various MacBook and MacBook Pro models. While this design resulted in a very thin keyboard, it caused problems for many users. MacBook owners soon started reporting problems such as stuck keys.
After a series of complaints and even lawsuits, Apple acknowledged the design flaws. It then launched a repair program for various models for up to 4 years after the sale. Under the program, it was decided that authorized service centers would replace defective keyboards free of charge.
The deadline for models with butterfly keyboards under this program is approaching. The 2019 13-inch MacBook Pro with four Thunderbolt ports will be excluded from the free repair program after November.
Owners have until November to take advantage of this program. If you are experiencing any stuttering or non-pressing issues with your butterfly keyboard, it is recommended that you take it to an authorized service center within a few months.
With the end of 2019 MacBook Pro support, Apple’s butterfly keyboard story will come to an end.
