Apple is allegedly preparing to shut down the iTunes Movie Trailers app after more than a decade. The app, which was first offered on iOS, allows users to follow movie trailers and previews. It also provided users with information about movie screenings. However, Apple will soon discontinue the app’s operations.
Apple TV will be used instead of iTunes Movie Trailers
Apple has started showing new warnings in the iTunes Movie Trailers app and on the Movie Trailers website. “The Apple TV app is the new version of Movie Trailers,” the information at the top of the website reads.
The Apple TV app will now offer this service in the Store menu. A section called “Movie and TV Trailers” will feature Movie Trailers.
The iTunes Movie Trailers app was originally developed and launched in 2011 from the Apple Quicktime movie trailers website. The app, which features the company’s old design elements, is now obsolete.
The service, which lacks many of today’s features such as dark mode, was once iOS users’ favorite app for movie trailers. But the rise of platforms like YouTube and IMDb, as well as the growth of Apple TV, has led to a decline in the use of Movie Trailers.
It’s unclear exactly when the app will be shut down, but new warnings suggest it probably won’t be too long. For now, users can still access the app and website to watch trailers. But all of this content will soon be available on Apple TV.
