Apple unveiled the iPhone 15 and many more new devices at the Wonderlust event yesterday. Without a doubt, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max were the stars of the night. Apple continues to surprise us as always. It has extended its NavIC support, developed as an alternative to India’s GPS system, to iPhone 15 models.
Apple gets NavIC support on iPhone models
In 2018, India took action to create an independent satellite system. This initiative is very brave for India. Because their competitors are very strong. All world giants, especially America, use their own systems. India’s space research organization ISRO has developed NavIC.
NavIC provides accurate positioning and timing information over India and the surrounding region. NavIC also covers the entire land area of India through more than half a dozen satellites.
Apple unveiled new devices at its Wonderlust event last night. One of the stars of the night, the iPhone 15 Pro models come with NavIC support.
But for which activities is NavIC used? It is used for transportation and location-based services, including land, air and sea. It also provides support for research and geodesy, scientific research, time distribution and synchronization. It also covers the broadcasting of life safety alerts.
ISRO has partnered with Qualcomm to integrate NavIC navigation technology into mobile chipsets. But now the space agency in India has achieved a new success. Working with Apple for its new A17 Pro chipset, it has managed to integrate NavIC into the new iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max models.
On the specifications page of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, Apple says that the new models support NavIC. This is the first time Apple has added NavIC support to an iPhone model. However, the company did not specify which features will be included in the distribution.
Also, this support only covers these two models for now. According to the official specifications, the standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus variants do not support NavIC.
