Last year, Apple introduced a new line of cases called FineWoven , replacing leather cases with an eco-friendly approach . These cases were appreciated by many users for being eco-friendly and containing 68% recycled material. Apple claimed that this material was a luxurious and durable micro-fabric, leaving users with a soft suede feel in their hands. However, no one had mentioned the wear and tear issue.
Apple may end FineWoven case production with iPhone 16 Series
Apple FineWoven cases quickly lost popularity among users. Because these cases, contrary to expectations, wear out very quickly, are extremely sensitive to scratches and show color changes over time. As a result, many users had to return the case or turn to alternative products. These cases, which are sold with a price tag of around 2,300, did not offer users the durability they expected.
Apple seems to have noticed this, according to Bloomberg’s well-known analyst Mark Gurman. According to Gurman’s inventory check, stock levels of FineWoven cases are quite low, which is usually a sign that a product is nearing its end.
With the iPhone 16 series, Apple is expected to completely end the FineWoven cases and replace them with a new material. Perhaps Apple will return to leather cases or come up with a completely new material.
Apple’s eco-friendly initiative, while well-intentioned, has failed to deliver on the user experience. Now, all eyes are on what kind of case options Apple will offer for the iPhone 16 series.
