Apple releases iOS 16.3 beta 1 with new features and improvements

Ana sayfa / Operating System

Apple has released the first beta of iOS 16.3 to developers, following the release of iOS 16.2 to the public. The new beta brings a number of changes and improvements to iPhones and iPads, including a new splash screen for Music Handoff between an iPhone and a HomePod.

iOS 16.3 beta 1 brings support for physical security keys and Music Handoff updates

One of the key features of iOS 16.3 beta 1 is the inclusion of support for physical FIDO-certified security keys. These act as an optional layer of added security for users’ Apple ID accounts. Once a security key is set up, users will need to scan or plug in the physical key whenever they log into their Apple ID account, rather than relying on a two-factor authentication code sent to other devices.

In addition to the new features, the beta also includes a number of bug fixes and performance improvements. For example, the update addresses an issue where some users were unable to connect to a Wi-Fi network and improves the reliability of FaceTime calls. Apple has also included a number of other improvements and fixes in the release, which are detailed in the company’s official Release Notes.

Developers who have the iOS 16 Developer Beta profile installed can update their compatible iPhone to iOS 16.3 beta 1 by following these steps:

  1. Launch the Settings app.
  2. Head to the General section.
  3. Tap on Software Update.
  4. Give the page a few seconds to refresh.
  5. The update will then appear. Tap on Download and install.
  6. Agree to the Terms of Service after reading them carefully.
  7. Make sure your iPhone is connected to a power source until the update finishes downloading and installing.

Once the update is installed, users will be running iOS 16.3 beta 1 on their devices. It’s important to note that beta software is often unstable and may contain bugs, so it’s not recommended for use on primary devices. However, for developers and those interested in testing new features, the beta can provide an early look at what’s to come in the next major release of iOS.

Apple may allow third-party app stores on iPhone

Apple is reportedly preparing to allow users to use third-party app stores and sideloading due to European Union laws.
