TCL aims to make augmented reality more accessible with the launch of its new Nxtwear S Plus AR glasses. As mixed reality technologies continue to evolve, options at different price points are coming to the fore. Nxtwear S Plus aims to meet this need.
What does the TCL Nxtwear S Plus AR offer?
The glasses come with dual 120Hz OLED micro displays that simulate a 215-inch screen from a distance of 6 meters. It features a display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 per eye for 2D content and 3840 x 1080 for 3D. According to TCL, it can seamlessly blend the virtual overlay with the real-world image.
The company said it made brightness a key consideration during the Nxtwear S Plus development process. The new glasses have a maximum nit level of 600, making them suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. The 120Hz refresh rate also reduces latency and promises a more comfortable mixed reality experience.
It’s worth noting that the TCL Nxtwear S Plus is not a standalone pair of glasses, requiring a computer or smartphone connection via USB Type-C. But at just $399, it’s a fraction of the price of Apple’s Vision Pro glasses.
Affordable products are critical for mixed reality to really take off in the coming years. TCL wants to bring the world of augmented reality to everyone with its new OLED AR glasses.
