Apple’s long-awaited mixed reality glasses, Apple Vision Pro, finally went on sale recently. Unfortunately, the new AR/VR glasses, which attracted attention with their price tag of 3 thousand 500 dollars were hacked even though they had only been on sale for a few days.
Apple Vision Pro was hacked, and security vulnerabilities detected
Apple’s new $3,500 device was hacked even though it had been on sale for a few days. Joseph Ravichandran, a doctoral student in microarchitectural security at MIT, said that he recently detected a critical kernel vulnerability in the mixed reality headset’s operating system, VisionOS, and managed to exploit it and hack the product.
While it is stated that this vulnerability may make AR / VR glasses vulnerable to many issues, such as jailbreak, the findings shared by Joseph Ravichandra on X (Twitter) reveal the seriousness of the situation.
When Vision Pro is hacked using the relevant vulnerability, it first enters ” perspective mode” and instructs the user to remove the headset in preparation for the restart, which is planned to occur within 30 seconds.
After the reboot, a log file appears showing that the device has been hacked due to a kernel vulnerability . Moreover, in the shared images, we see an application called Vision Pro Crasher with the logo of a skull wearing headphones. Just below this, there is the text “Crash My Vision Pro” in English.
This vulnerability detected by Joseph Ravichandran is indeed a danger for Vision Pro, and Apple needs to fix it as soon as possible. Fortunately, the brand has a track record of taking action quickly in situations like this and resolving security issues quickly. It is expected that this issue will be addressed very soon.
