Apple has taken important steps towards carbon emissions in recent years. The company, which wants to produce carbon-neutral products by 2030, has recently added a new charging method to iPhones. So what does ‘Clean Energy Charging’, which aims to reduce the carbon footprint of iPhone users, do?

Apple has launched a new feature called “Clean Energy Charging” that will reduce the carbon footprint during charging. The feature, available with iOS 16.1, will enable smarter charging of iPhones in regions where clean energy sources are common. Using emissions data from its local grid, it will charge during hours of clean energy production.

Clean Energy Charging is enabled by default for users. However, users can disable it in the Battery section of the Settings app. The feature will also learn users’ charging habits over time and charge iPhone at times when carbon emissions are lowest.
