Apple has further clarified its roadmap for augmented and mixed reality technologies. According to information shared by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the company is working on seven different head-mounted devices under two separate product groups called the Vision series and Apple Glasses. Five of these projects have been scheduled. The development process for the remaining two models is ongoing.

The updated version of the company’s Vision Pro model, currently on the market, is known as the “M5” code. This new model is planned to enter production in the third quarter of 2025. The device, which does not foresee any major changes in its technical features, is expected to reach sales of 150,000 to 200,000 units by the end of the year.

Apple is preparing for the Vision Air, a lighter and more affordable model after the Vision Pro. Mass production of the Vision Air will begin in 2027. It is stated that the device will be 40 percent lighter than the Vision Pro and will use plastic and magnesium alloy instead of the titanium-glass combination. The device, which has a reduced number of sensors, will be powered by the latest processor used in iPhone models.

The second generation of Vision Pro is planned for 2028. This model, which will have a new design, will be released at a lighter and more affordable price. Information that Apple plans to use a Mac-level processor in this device was also included in the leaks.

Developments on the Apple Glasses front are also notable. The release date of the product, which was initially planned for 2026, has been postponed. Apple Glasses will be put into production in the second quarter of 2027. The first model will include features such as voice command control, interaction with hand gestures, artificial intelligence-supported environmental detection and media recording. Apple aims to ship 3 to 5 million units annually in this product group.

The company is also working on two new glasses projects for 2028. It is reported that LCoS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) and waveguide technologies will be used together in one of these models. The technical details of the other model are not yet clear. Apart from this, there is also a screen-supported accessory project compatible with Macs and iPhones, but the development process of this product has been suspended for now due to weight issues.

Despite criticisms that Apple is a latecomer to the sector, it aims to be a major player in the augmented reality market by 2027. It is estimated that the company will exceed 10 million annual shipments in the smart glasses segment alone from that date.
