Apple wants to diversify the US technology giant’s global supply chain. It is also looking for alternative ways to escape the tensions and hot conflicts in the world and to ensure the continuity of production. It also wants to move production out of China. For this reason, it wants the batteries of its newest generation iPhones to be produced in India.
This week, an Indian government minister made a statement. According to the statement, TDK, Apple’s Japanese supplier, will establish a 180-acre facility in Manesar in the state of Haryana. The batteries to be used in Indian-made iPhones will be produced in these facilities.
Thus, the Indian government has taken a big step towards realizing its goal of deepening the electronics manufacturing ecosystem in its country. Rajeev Chandrasekhar, minister of state for electronics and IT, congratulated Apple, TDK and local authorities for taking this step.
Trade tensions between Washington and Beijing increase from time to time. For this reason, Apple has been trying to eliminate its dependence on China in its manufacturing and supply chains for years.
