Apple has had a clean record of being faithful to software updates for years. However, over time, some devices become unable to support new updates, and Apple removes them from the update cycle. Unfortunately, this year, some devices will no longer receive updates for iOS, watchOS, macOS, and iPadOS versions in 2024. Here are the Apple devices that will no longer be supported…
These Apple devices will no longer receive software updates
All iPhones that received the iOS 17 software update will be able to upgrade to iOS 18
iPhone users have nothing to worry about because all iPhone models currently running iOS 17 will be able to upgrade to the new iOS 18 software update. After last year’s removal of the iPhone X from updates, older iPhone XS Max users were concerned. Fortunately, Apple has decided to offer software updates for this model for one more year.
However, the new AI-powered Apple Intelligence features will currently only be available for the iPhone 15 Pro series. If you don’t have a phone from this series or are not planning to switch to the new iPhones coming this fall, you will miss out on the new AI features brought by Apple’s software update.
These Apple Watch models will not receive watchOS 11
Unfortunately, the following Apple Watch models will not receive the watchOS 11 software update:
- Apple Watch Series 4
- Apple Watch Series 5
- Apple Watch SE (1st generation)
Two MacBook models will not receive the macOS Sequoia update
Apple will not provide macOS 15 Sequoia to the following MacBook models:
- MacBook Air (Retina, 13-inch, 2019)
- MacBook Air (Retina, 13-inch, 2018)
Again, remember that all Apple Intelligence AI features will not be available on Intel processor Macs. You will need an M series Mac to update to macOS Sequoia.
These iPad models will not receive iPadOS 18
Lastly, Apple will not send the iPadOS 18 software update to the following iPad models:
- iPad (6th generation)
- iPad Pro 12.9-inch (2nd generation)
- iPad Pro 10.5-inch
Again, Apple Intelligence features, part of iPadOS 18, will not be available on all models. You will need an iPad with an M series chip to use these features. Although major version upgrades have ended for the devices mentioned above, Apple may continue to provide important security updates for these devices for some time.
