France announced that due to radiation emissions over European borders in mid-September, iPhone 12 can no longer be sold in the country. Additionally, they warned Apple about this issue. Following these events, Apple released a statement regarding the iPhone 12 radiation issue. Here are the details!
Apple stated that the iPhone 12 has always been ‘safe’!
In mid-September of last year, France announced that it was suspending the sale of iPhone 12 in the country due to radiation emissions from the phone. Along with this, France cautioned Apple to ensure that the phone complies with European electromagnetic radiation standards.
Following the events, Apple stated that they would release a software update for users in France. Furthermore, the company’s recent statement revealed all the facts. In the article they published, Apple mentioned that they disabled the feature that detects the external environment with higher transmission power when the iPhone is not held or is not in a pocket.
This feature will be disabled only in the iPhone 12 models sold in France. The French regulatory agency, ANFR, conducted a test that didn’t take into account the external environment detection mechanism mentioned by Apple. However, Apple claims that this feature has been internationally tested and approved.
Normally, the iPhone is equipped with sensors that detect when it’s placed on a stationary surface like a table. This mechanism, used in iPhones for years, allows the phone to increase transmission power in external environments.
Apple stated that the iPhone 12 is always safe. As a result of the iOS 17.1 update, iPhone 12 models in France will not be able to exceed the allowed level of power when they detect an external environment.
