Apple and OpenAI in talks for ChatGPT-powered iPhone
ChatGPT is actually available on iPhones from the App Store or via its website. However, adding it natively to the device can provide a Siri-like experience. Talks with OpenAI also indicate that Siri’s infrastructure will be updated.
According to sources in the US, Apple and OpenAI have negotiated to integrate the company’s artificial intelligence capabilities into iOS 18. If an agreement is reached, the GPT artificial intelligence model developed by OpenAI could be used in Apple’s ecosystem.
Apple has not yet made a final decision. It was previously rumored that it was in talks with Google and wanted to integrate the Gemini model into the iPhone.
CEO Tim Cook actually revealed in February that the company is making significant investments in artificial intelligence. In this context, it was stated that a project called “Apple GPT” was being developed. However, recent reports show that Apple is turning to alternatives such as Google and OpenAI.
In particular, an agreement with OpenAI could enable Apple to catch up with some rapidly developing technologies. Siri’s speech and text comprehension capabilities could open new pages. New artificial intelligence features will be introduced with iOS 18.
