ASUS has started the countdown for the introduction of its gaming-focused ROG Phone 8 series. A new development has emerged regarding smartphones, with the release date already known and key features unveiled. ASUS has shared the performance test results for the ASUS ROG Phone 8 Pro model. ASUS ROG Phone 8 Pro features and performance test results
ASUS has officially begun sharing details about the ROG Phone 8 series, set to be unveiled on January 16. The company recently announced the AnTuTu and Geekbench scores for the high-end Pro model in the series.
The ASUS ROG Phone 8 Pro scored 2,359,969 points on AnTuTu and achieved 7,422 points in Geekbench’s multi-core tests.
Compared to its predecessor, the ROG Phone 8 series will feature sharper and more angular frames. Additionally, the back panel will showcase a dual-tone color design, with shades of gray and black separating from each other in a lighter and darker fashion.
The smartphones will feature a square camera module in the bottom right corner, housing a triple-camera setup with a large main sensor and two smaller auxiliary sensors, whose resolutions are yet to be revealed. Details such as the RGB logo, indicative of the gaming focus of the ROG series, are also incorporated into the devices.
The ROG Phone 8 series will boast a 6.78-inch AMOLED FHD+ display with a 165Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 2500 nits. The fingerprint sensor is positioned beneath the display as the chosen security method. Both models will be equipped with Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection and carry an IP68 certification.
Under the hood, the series will feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, manufactured using 4nm technology. The processor includes 1 Cortex-X4 core at 3.3 GHz, 3 Cortex-A720 cores at 3.2 GHz, 2 Cortex-A720 cores at 3.0 GHz, and 2 Cortex-A520 cores at 2.3 GHz. The new chips also incorporate the Adreno 750 graphics unit with Ray Tracing support.
Another detail revealed in the performance tests is the RAM capacity of the devices. The standard ROG Phone 8 will come with 12GB of LPDDR5x RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage, while the Pro model will offer 16/24GB of LPDDR5x RAM and internal storage options of 512GB or 1TB UFS 4.0. Both devices will run on Android 14.
