Continuing to enhance its digital music platform, YouTube Music, owned by Google, is introducing new features to compete with Spotify. Recently, the application’s interface was updated, and now it’s gaining a short video feature similar to TikTok’s. Here are the details about YouTube Music’s “Samples” feature!
YouTube Music’s New Song Recommendations Feature: Samples
Short videos have become nearly ubiquitous across platforms, with companies offering this feature for users to watch in brief intervals. This trend arrived on the video-watching platform YouTube under the name “Shorts” in the past years. Not long ago, it was announced that this feature would be coming to YouTube Music.
Recently, YouTube announced the introduction of a short video feature for YouTube Music. This vertically-scrolling video stream, called “Samples” by the company, provides YouTube Music users with song recommendations.
According to reports, the Samples page shows users a short clip from the recommended song. To listen to the full song or to get more information about the track, users simply need to click on the video.
One of the best aspects of this feature is undoubtedly the personalized recommendations. For instance, classical music enthusiasts will receive classical music suggestions, while avid rap listeners will be presented with rap songs. This way, users will not only discover new music but also avoid irrelevant recommendations most of the time.
YouTube’s Product Management Director, Brandon Bilinski, mentioned in a statement that they noticed users discover more songs through short videos. He also added that although Samples will show recommendations based on what users listen to the most, sometimes unrelated suggestions might come up for new discoveries.
The YouTube Samples feature has now started rolling out globally for both Android and iOS users. The update might not have reached you yet, so you might need to wait a bit.
