An important security vulnerability that closely concerns Samsung users has been discovered. Google’s security researchers have uncovered a high-risk vulnerability affecting Samsung’s mobile processors, which is currently being actively exploited. Here’s what you need to do to avoid being affected by this vulnerability and the details of the issue…

Samsung smartphone users should be cautious

The vulnerability, identified as CVE-2024-44068 by Google security researchers, leads to a ‘use-after-free’ issue in Samsung’s mobile processors, according to Samsung’s statement. This poses a risk of privilege escalation in applications without the user’s knowledge. Google’s leading security researchers, Xingyu Jin and Clement Lecigene, have stated that this vulnerability is quite serious.

According to technical details, this vulnerability does not allow direct attacks on devices on its own. However, when combined with other vulnerabilities, it can lead to dangerous consequences. Researchers have noted that attackers can use this vulnerability to execute code within the privileged camera server process.

Security experts believe that this vulnerability is likely linked to spyware. Numerous spyware attacks uncovered by researchers in recent months highlight the seriousness of the situation.

In addition to all this, tensions seem to be rising in the Samsung-Google relationship. While Google has started rolling out the Android 15 update for Pixel devices, Samsung users will only receive this update in 2025 with the launch of the Galaxy S25 series. It is claimed that this is not a decision made by the South Korean company, but rather a consequence of issues with Google.

If you want to avoid being affected by any security vulnerabilities and you’re using a Samsung smartphone, it’s advisable to update your device as soon as possible.
