World-renowned social media platforms seem to be adopting an aggressive approach in training their AI models in the new era: Following Meta, which recently revealed it would use user data for AI, X (Twitter) has now officially announced that it will use your data by changing its terms of service.

X will use your data to train Grok!

The decision by social media giant X (Twitter) to use user data to train its AI models has caused concern among digital content creators. The platform’s new terms of service, which will take effect on November 15, explicitly state that any content shared by users can be used in AI training.

Nowadays, artists and content creators, in particular, are troubled by the fact that their works may be used to train AI systems that could potentially leave them without jobs. Some X users have officially announced that they’ve started deleting their personal photos and private posts.

As debates surrounding X’s AI model Grok continue to intensify, the platform’s new data policy is becoming even more complicated. Previously, users could disable data sharing for Grok in the settings section. However, with the new terms, disabling this feature might not be as easy as before…

Privacy experts are also concerned about the situation of private accounts. While the old policy specified that content from private accounts would not be used for Grok’s training, the new terms make no such distinction. However, it’s important to note that companies’ legal terms usually grant them broader rights than their practical application options.

Following Meta’s similar move, this change is likely to further ignite debates about how big tech companies will use user data in the AI race.

Will X offer a simple settings tab to allow or disallow data processing? Don’t forget to share your thoughts in the comments.
