Bad news for NFT owners!

Ana sayfa / News

Reddit is in the process of ending its NFT-based collectible avatar program, once hailed as the future of technology and launched with high hopes. The platform gave users a very limited time to protect and transfer their digital assets. If you own a Collectible Avatar NFT on Reddit, you need to quickly transfer your “Vault” data to a new wallet, otherwise you could lose control of these assets.

In a report published in 2021, the company stated that NFT technology would be here to stay and launched its own marketplace the following year. However, three years later, the tide has turned. Reddit announced last August that the program would end. While the platform described this process as a remarkable experience in empowering creators, it has decided to withdraw its support and set a timetable for users to transfer their data.

Users have until January 1, 2026, to transfer their “Vault” to a third-party wallet or service. This date coincides with the end of December, and time is rapidly running out. If this process is not completed by the specified date, users will not be able to transfer or sell their collectible avatars off-platform. More importantly, access to the blockchain wallet connected to the vault for any purpose will be impossible.

After the deadline expires, users can continue to use their avatars as profile pictures. However, the NFT feature, which verifies the image’s ownership on the blockchain, and the transfer capability will cease. Less than a month before the deadline, the company sent users a final notification, emphasizing that wallet access will be permanently disabled and there will be no return.

While some users maintain that the tokens will still exist on the blockchain and that only the access method will change, the overall picture suggests that the NFT market is in significant decline. According to reports from crypto analytics firms, 96% of NFT projects are considered “dead” by 2024. Data for 2025 reveals that base prices have collapsed and transaction volumes have plummeted. Reddit’s move serves as a concrete example of the general retreat and waning interest in the sector.

It’s quite remarkable that this era, which began with significant investments and expectations in the tech world, has quietly ended. What are your thoughts on this development? Have you ever invested in a digital collectible or NFT project before?
