First released on the big screen in 2014, and with four main films and a series over the past decade, it seems like John Wick might have reached the end of the road. Although there were talks about the continuation of the series in the past, the series’ producer, Chad Stahelski, has stated that John’s story is over and there are no plans for a new film.
Producer: “John Wick 5 will not be made!”
According to Chad Stahelski’s statements, it’s now confirmed that the John Wick series will not continue with another main film. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the producer mentioned that the fourth film was the pinnacle and continuing the story could harm the franchise.
“There is no way to surpass John Wick 4, it’s that simple. How can we build on what we’ve done?” Stahelski said, adding that over the last three years they had drafted three or four different scripts for John Wick 5, but they were more of a mental exercise than a serious plan.
However, John Wick fans don’t need to be disappointed. The Wick universe will continue to expand with different projects. Leading the charge is ‘John Wick Presents: Ballerina,’ starring Ana de Armas, which is set to be released on June 6, 2025. Additionally, an anime project based on the impossible mission concept, which the series originally revolved around, is also in the works.
The universe’s expansion doesn’t stop there. A new series titled ‘Under the High Table’ will focus on the franchise’s side characters. Moreover, a spin-off film centered around Donnie Yen’s character, Caine, from the fourth film is also being worked on.
As a personal note, let’s not forget: Hollywood rarely leaves a cash cow untouched. While it might take a few years, we wouldn’t be surprised if we eventually see another John Wick film starring Keanu Reeves.
