Just like Elden Ring, which was released in February 2022, received a bombardment of positive reviews from both critics and players right after its release, it was clear it would be the Game of the Year. We are seeing a similar level of interest towards Baldur’s Gate 3 this year.
Baldur’s Gate 3 has a score of 97 on Metacritic
Especially with its pricing and Turkish language support in Turkey, Baldur’s Gate 3 managed to capture the hearts of Turkish gamers and gained significant popularity worldwide despite being a dice-based role-playing game.
This situation naturally reflects in the game’s platform reviews as well. Metacritic, a reputable platform that aggregates reviews from all versions of a game across all platforms and provides an average score, has also rated Baldur’s Gate 3.
With the rating given, it’s evident that Baldur’s Gate 3 is the highest-rated game of 2023 on all platforms. The game received a score of 97 from 26 critics. Normally, in such cases, player ratings tend to be lower compared to critic ratings.
However, the average player rating for the game from 5,496 reviews is 9.1. Among the games it outperformed are strong titles like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of Kingdom, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Street Fighter 6, and Diablo 4.
By the way, the game also holds the 15th spot on the list of the top 100 games with the highest Metacritic scores of all time.
Elden Ring declared itself the Game of the Year in February 2022 and indeed received the award at the annual Game of the Year Awards Ceremony held every December. Baldur’s Gate 3 was released just 5 months before this award ceremony.
In today’s gaming landscape, games often release with issues and require time to be patched and polished into a complete product. However, Baldur’s Gate 3 didn’t face such problems and was released almost flawlessly, making it an unhindered contender for the Game of the Year Award.
Among the games released so far, which one do you consider as the nominee for the 2023 Game of the Year Award? Please share your thoughts in the comments.
