Competition in electric vehicles is increasing every day and companies are rapidly developing themselves. William Li, CEO of Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Nio, shared the test they conducted over the weekend on live broadcast. Li tested their newly developed 150 kWh semi-solid state battery on the Nio ET7. During the 14-hour journey, Li and his co-driver achieved a range of 1044 km (650 miles), with the battery still at 3%.

The 14-hour journey, which began at 6:32 a.m. Sunday morning at a battery swap station in Shanghai, was streamed live on the internet. William Li explained that the 150 kWh battery had previously been tested on a route between Kunming and Beihai and traveled 1,145 kilometers (711 miles), setting a range record for mass-produced electric vehicles.

The ET7 was driven with Nio’s autonomous driving system Navigate-on-Pilot+ (NOP+) for 92% of the test drive (957 km / 595 miles). The maximum speed was limited to 90 km/h (56 mph), resulting in an energy consumption of 13.2 kWh/100 km. The average speed of the journey was 83.9 km/h. The journey took 12.4 hours excluding stops and breaks and 14 hours in total.

The 150 kWh semi-solid state battery used in the vehicle was developed by Beijing-based battery manufacturer WeLion New Energy Technology. It was announced three years ago at Nio Day 2020 (held in January 2021) with the launch of Nio’s first sedan, the ET7.
