Turkey’s first unmanned combat aircraft, developed by Baykar, has turned another critical corner. As part of the Kızılelma (Red Elma) munition test, the aircraft took to the skies with its wing-mounted payload. This development is of great significance in proving the platform’s operational capabilities.
Kızılelma munition testing and radar performance
The PT-5 prototype was used during the flights, and the GÖKDOĞAN munition was integrated into the aircraft. Performance measurements of the EOTS and Murad AESA radar systems were also successfully completed. Engineers conducted a detailed analysis of the aircraft’s aerodynamics and sensor accuracy under load.
This historic achievement was made possible through the collaborative efforts of Turkey’s leading defense industry organizations. The process is being carried out under Baykar’s leadership, with valuable contributions from ASELSAN and TÜBİTAK SAGE. Thus, the integration of domestic subsystems is progressing smoothly.
This completed phase has been recognized as a concrete example of the National Technology Initiative. The new capabilities gained by the platform are enhancing the international competitiveness of the Turkish defense industry. These steps, taken before mass production, already ensure the quality of the final product entering inventory.
