Developed by China-based developer Game Science, the highly anticipated Black Myth: Wukong is taking Steam by storm. Not even 24 hours later, the game’s instant player count reached 2,176,338, making it the 2nd most played game in Steam history.
Black Myth: Wukong breaks Palworld’s Steam record
Black Myth: Wukong has surpassed Palworld’s previous record of 2,101,000 instant players. Bucky, Palworld’s community manager, was positive about this achievement and congratulated Wukong.
Bucky said on Twitter, “I hope Wukong breaks 4 million. We probably won’t see another game reach these levels until GTA6.”
While much of the game’s success has come from China, Wukong has also made waves around the world. Analysts predict that the game’s popularity could bring about a major shift in the Chinese gaming industry. But even if we remove China’s contribution from the statistics, the remaining 10-15% of the player base would still be enough for the game to be a huge success. This proves that the game is a big hit not only in China but also worldwide.
Wukong, one of the best-selling games in different regions of Steam, has been a huge success worldwide. This is due to the fact that the game tells a straight linear story without any DEI or Woke culture elements.
While it seems unlikely that another game will reach these levels until GTA 6, expected in 2025, the unexpected success of Black Myth: Wukong’s unexpected success may open the door to new surprises in the gaming world.
