The era of manual is over: BMW is switching to fully automatic transmission!

Ana sayfa / Cars

BMW, the brand that made people love manual transmission, announced that it will no longer produce manual vehicles. Explaining that it no longer makes sense to produce manual vehicles due to sales and cost values, the German automobile giant will no longer offer a manual transmission option even in the M series.

The development of technology standardizes some things. For example, while cruise control was a fantastic feature in 2000, it is now available even in the empty packages of B segment vehicles. In recent years, the automatic transmission option has also become standard. Many models do not even produce vehicles with manual transmission. Now BMW has also joined this caravan.

BMW board member Frank Weber made a serious statement today about the transmission options of the vehicles. BMW, which has already removed the manual transmission option in many of its models, reported that the sales of manually produced vehicles do not cover the production costs. Stating that the production of vehicles with manual transmission is unreasonable for the company, Weber stated that there will no longer be a manual transmission even in the M series.

As you know, the company offers a manual transmission option in the M2, M3, M4 and Z4 M40i models and still offers the real BMW experience to its lovers. However, the cost-sales curve pushes BMW to end the manual. On the volume side, BMW entered this path years ago and appears in the market with mostly automatic vehicles up to 2000 cc.

“If you want a manual M, you should buy it now.”

Frank Weber

People who believe that cars have a soul will not find it right that BMW no longer produces manuals. However, in today’s world where even drivers are automatic, keeping the transmission manual puts a lot of pressure on brands. What do you think about BMW’s decision?
