Chinese automotive giant BYD is on the agenda with its decision to bring its cheapest electric car to Europe. Although not officially introduced yet, BYD’s $10,000 Seagull electric vehicle has already managed to become an event.

Earlier this year, BYD declared a war of liberation against gasoline-powered vehicles and launched its cheapest electric vehicle, the Seagull Honor Edition.

With a starting price of $9,700 ($312,516), BYD’s new Seagull electric vehicle is already causing concern among its competitors. Powered by BYD’s Blade batteries, the electric car is available in 30.08 kWh and 38.88 kWh models, with a CLTC range of 305 km and 405 km respectively.

The cheap electric car was developed under the pseudonym “mini Lamborghini” as a project led by former Lamborghini designer Wolfgang Egger.

Despite the affordable price tag, the Seagull’s interior features a minimalist design with a 10.1-inch swiveling central display. Users can also interact with DiLink’s smart network and play media.

The BYD Seagull is available in China in three trim levels. The base (Active) model starts at under $10,000 ($322,181). The mid-level model has a starting price of 10,500 dollars (338,365 TL), while the top-level model costs 12,000 dollars (386,703 TL).

Fingerprint-powered car! 2025 Kia EV6 unveiled

Kia's ambitious model EV6 in the electric vehicle segment is here with the 2025 model. Let's take a look at the details together.

BYD’s affordable electric vehicle stands out among the competitors. Ford CEO Jim Farley describes it as a very good car. The start of new competition in Europe is causing concern for rivals like VW and Stellantis.

Despite customs duties, BYD is expected to offer the Seagull in Europe for less than 20,000 euros (698,708 TL). BYD also plans to launch another electric car in Europe with a higher price of 25,000 euros (873,658 TL). In addition, BYD plans to build two factories in the region, aiming to reduce the potential impact of EU tariffs on electric cars made in China.

If this model comes to Turkey, it could be the first electric car under 1 million TL with taxes. What do you think? Please don’t forget to share your thoughts with us in the comments section below.
