While supercars have grown rapidly in recent years, an American giant may be looking to enter the hypercar market. Recent rumors have revealed that Cadillac wants to produce a hypercar. Important statements came from GM, Cadillac’s parent company.

Michael Simcoe, Vice President of Global Design at GM, said in an interview that Cadillac wants to produce a high-performance car. He said that the company is looking at the hypercar project and that it is researching this market.

“Would we want to build one (hypercar)? Yes. But are we developing a car? That would be giving too much information,” Simcoe said. In other words, he said the company is warming up to the hypercar.

For those who don’t know, hypercars are limited edition luxury cars with high performance, innovative technology and high price tags. These vehicles usually have engines with over 600 horsepower.

This is actually not Cadillac’s first attempt at developing a supercar. The company has previously shown concepts such as the Cien in 2002 and the Sixteen in 2003. Powered by V12 and V16 engines, these concepts revealed what the next generation of models would be like.

More than two decades later, the hypercar market has exploded. Models such as the SSC Tuatara, Koenigsegg Jesko and Bugatti Bolide have made a big splash in the market. Cadillac, recognizing the fast-growing ultra-luxury market, said the hypercar could be internal combustion or electric. Cadillac also wants to join F1 in 2026.
