OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently announced the company’s AI roadmap. Altman stated that GPT-4.5 (codename: Orion) will be released soon and that this will be OpenAI’s last “chain-thinking” free model. GPT-5 will be more comprehensive and unified. So when is GPT-5 coming?
OpenAI announces future plans: GPT-4.5 and GPT-5 on the way!
First of all, according to Altman, GPT-4.5 (Orion) will be the last major update before GPT-5. This model will be an improved version of existing systems and will offer better language processing capabilities. However, OpenAI says it is uncomfortable with the “model picker” feature and is considering creating a more unified AI system in the future.
While Altman was not specific about the release dates of GPT-4.5 and GPT-5, he hinted that they could be released in the coming weeks or months. In fact, the most important feature of GPT-5 is that it will combine all of OpenAI’s technologies into a single system. Altman said that by combining the “o-series” and “GPT-series” systems, this model will be able to use the most appropriate thought process for different tasks. The user access of the new system will be as follows:
- Free ChatGPT users will have unlimited chat rights but will operate at standard intelligence level.
- ChatGPT Plus subscribers will have access to a more advanced level of AI.
- Pro subscribers will be able to use the GPT-5 model with the highest level of intelligence.
