The automotive world is changing rapidly and artificial intelligence technologies are at the center of this change. Accordingly, Mercedes-Benz will introduce an AI-powered update to its MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) infotainment system.
Mercedes-Benz vehicles will have ChatGPT and Bing integration
Mercedes-Benz is revolutionizing MBUX, its in-car infotainment system, using artificial intelligence. More than three million Mercedes-Benz vehicles with the MBUX system will be equipped with ChatGPT and Bing-powered voice assistants.
Following a beta test with nearly 900,000 US drivers, the German automaker has launched the AI-powered MBUX update. Markus Schäfer, Chief Technology Officer for Development and Procurement at Mercedes-Benz Group AG, said the company will offer a personalized driving experience.
The new artificial intelligence assistant in Mercedes vehicles will provide more interactive communication between the driver and the vehicle, offering information access. The system will use Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service to integrate ChatGPT’s speech capabilities with Bing’s search capabilities.
Drivers will be able to access the voice assistant in German, English by saying “Hey Mercedes” or pressing the corresponding button on the steering wheel. The system will do more than just respond. It will provide up-to-date information and understand the context of speech.
To further enhance the user experience, the system will store conversation history for one hour, allowing drivers to pick up where they left off. This will provide flexibility for maps and other in-car applications.
