We know that Apple has been accelerating the iOS 18 development process for some time. This operating system, which will be the biggest update in recent times, will also bring many artificial intelligence innovations. Apple and OpenAI are said to have agreed on ChatGPT support for iOS 18.
Siri’s infrastructure may be ChatGPT with iOS 18
Apple and OpenAI have taken action to revitalize the Siri assistant. Allegedly, the ChatGPT language model will be integrated with Siri early next year. This update, which will be released with iOS 18, will enable Siri to gain the ChatGPT infrastructure.
The deal reflects Apple’s current focus on on-device AI models. The company, which has been working on developing its own AI model for some time, continued to negotiate with companies such as Google and OpenAI.
Sources claimed that Apple Senior Vice President of Machine Learning and AI Strategy John Giannandrea was against introducing a new chatbot. But Siri has struggled to keep up with the capabilities of Alexa, Copilot and Google Assistant. This led to a comprehensive update.
According to the agreement, queries that Siri cannot answer on the device will be forwarded to ChatGPT in a way that protects privacy. The model will create the answer using its own infrastructure and send the answer back to Siri to communicate it to the user. In this way, Siri will benefit from ChatGPT without compromising user privacy.
Partnering with OpenAI is likely to significantly improve Siri’s capabilities. More details are expected to be announced at WWDC 2024 on June 10.
