ChatGPT is now more friendly

OpenAI had drawn some criticism from users with its latest GPT-5.2 release, which gave ChatGPT a professional makeover. For those who found the bot’s demeanor rude, arrogant, or overly corporate, the company has taken the expected step. It’s now possible to customize ChatGPT’s personality with extra warmth or enthusiasm, breaking that cold attitude.

According to the announcement on the X platform, users can change the bot’s style with the Warm, Enthusiastic, Headings and Lists, and Emoji options found under ChatGPT personalization settings. For each of these four options, the More, Less, or Default settings can be selected to precisely adjust the tone of responses.

For example, if you’re tired of ChatGPT constantly creating bulleted lists, you can reduce the Headings and Lists option, or increase the use of Emojis for a more informal conversation. These new features build upon the basic style and tone options like Professional, Friendly, and Interesting, which were added to GPT-5.1 approximately a month ago.

This move is seen as a result of the controversy that began earlier this year when OpenAI replaced the GPT-40 model with GPT-5 and culminated with GPT-5.2. Users complained that the new models were less conversational, more distant, and at times rude. The company seems to have realized that while trying to increase professionalism with GPT-5.2, they overdid the intimacy, and quickly rolled out these fine-tuning options.

So, did you find ChatGPT too cold or rude after the recent updates? Are you considering using the new warmth setting? Share your thoughts in the comments!
