ChatGPT gains access to the world with new plugins

Ana sayfa / News

OpenAI recently announced a plugin system for its ChatGPT AI assistant, enabling it to interact with the wider world via the Internet. The plugins allow ChatGPT to perform tasks such as booking flights, ordering groceries, browsing the web, and more. These bits of code give ChatGPT access to external resources online.

Expanding ChatGPT’s Capabilities

Traditionally, large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT have been restricted to interacting with users solely through text conversations. However, OpenAI has now developed a ChatGPT plugin interface, which it calls ChatGPT’s “eyes and ears.” This allows developers to create components that enable ChatGPT to interact with various internet services.

Available plugins include those created by companies such as Expedia, FiscalNote, Instacart, Kayak, Klarna, Milo, OpenTable, Shopify, Slack, Speak, Wolfram, and Zapier. The Zapier plugin is particularly powerful, as it allows ChatGPT to execute any of Zapier’s 50,000 actions across its 5,000+ supported apps.

OpenAI is hosting three plugins itself, including a web browser, a code interpreter for Python programs, and a retrieval tool for accessing personal or organizational information sources.

Developers have found the process of creating ChatGPT plugins to be relatively simple, as they can use natural language to instruct ChatGPT on how to use their service. Developers have also been utilizing ChatGPT and GPT-4 to write ChatGPT plugin manifests, further streamlining the development process.
