OpenAI has made Advanced Voice Mode free in order to bring the voice chat experience to a wider user base. Working with the “GPT-4o mini”, a more efficient version of the GPT-4o model, this feature offers voice communication with AI almost as natural as human speech.
According to the company’s statement, the new model provides a similar speech fluency to the premium GPT-4o version, while allowing more people to experience this experience thanks to its lower computational cost. Users can activate this feature by clicking on the voice icon in the lower right corner of the screen in the ChatGPT application. However, in order to use it, the application must be allowed to access the microphone.
Advanced Voice Mode allows users to have a more interactive and dynamic conversation, but it also has some limitations. OpenAI has set a certain time limit for daily voice use. Users receive a warning three minutes before the usage time ends, and the conversation ends automatically when the time is up.
