Chery Auto will make its European production in Spain
According to information in Reuters, negotiations between Chery and the Spanish government concluded positively this week. A formal agreement is expected to be concluded in the coming days and construction of the first production line in Europe will begin.
The planned Chery factory will be built on the former Nissan production site in Barcelona, which closed last year and created 1,600 jobs. By placing production in this region, it is aimed to regain some of the employment.
A delegation from the Catalonia region, where Barcelona is located, will meet with Chery executives to finalize the remaining details. In this context, the meetings are expected to be held in China and will be announced by next week.
The financial incentives offered to Chery by Spanish authorities were not disclosed. However, the Chinese manufacturer will be eligible to receive a grant from the 1.7 billion euro aid funds planned for EU countries, thanks to the electric vehicles it will produce in Spain.
