Artificial intelligence continues to lead to interesting incidents worldwide. Chinese police arrested a person for allegedly using the ChatGPT chatbot to spread false information. The incident raises concerns about AI’s ability to distort real news.

China gets entangled with a fake train accident written by ChatGPT

According to a report on SCMP, Chinese police made an unusual arrest. A man named Hong fabricated a fictional news story on April 25, claiming that a train accident caused the deaths of nine people. It is said that this news, prepared using ChatGPT, “incited hatred and hostility among the public.” The user could face a prison sentence of five to ten years if found guilty.

The fake article reportedly spread through Chinese social media platforms and received over 15,000 clicks on a site called Baijiahao. The fabricated news caused chaos in Gansu province in China. Additionally, the fact that ChatGPT was used was not mentioned, sparking controversy.

This arrest comes shortly after warnings from China’s Cyber Research Administration. Last month, a bill demanding the “censorship” of artificial intelligence was passed in China.

A similar incident previously happened to a high school student. Gansu police arrested a student known as Yang, accusing him of sharing false information on social media. The incident drew attention to the dangers of chatbots like ChatGPT.
