After the massive success of Oppenheimer both at the box office and during award season, Christopher Nolan is gearing up for his next project, The Odyssey. Universal Pictures has officially revealed the budget and storyline for the film. It seems Nolan is set to create his highest-budget film yet with this project.
Nolan is Going Big This Time!
The Odyssey will bring Homer’s ancient Greek epic to the big screen. Universal Pictures has announced that the film’s budget will be $250 million, which matches Nolan’s previous most expensive production, The Dark Knight Rises. However, due to the use of new IMAX technology and filming in various locations worldwide, the cost may rise even further. For comparison, Oppenheimer was made with a $100 million budget.
The film will focus on the legendary Odysseus’s perilous journey back home after the Trojan War, featuring mythical elements like sirens, cyclopes, and other creatures. With Nolan’s reputation for faithful adaptations, we expect the movie to bring this epic tale to life with a grand and epic narrative style.
The cast is also packed with stars, including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, and Charlize Theron. Nolan and his wife Emma Thomas are bringing the project to life through their production company, Syncopy.
Filming is set to begin in the first half of 2025, with Universal announcing that The Odyssey will be released on July 17, 2026. Given Nolan’s passion for IMAX technology, The Odyssey is expected to be a visual feast.
