Cities Skylines 2 console version has been delayed once again. Originally scheduled for release in October 2023 for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, the game was first delayed to spring 2024 and then again to this October. However, today it was announced that the game’s release date has been postponed indefinitely.
What are the reasons for Cities Skylines 2’s delay?
According to an update on Paradox Interactive’s forums, the stability and performance goals for the console version have not yet been met. “Without a Release Candidate (RC), there is no way we can meet the October release window,” Paradox said. The company emphasized that they are making slow but steady progress, but there are some unresolved issues that negatively impact the player experience.
Paradox expects to receive a new RC in August, which will determine whether or not the game can begin shipping. If there are still issues that need to be resolved, there may be further delays. Paradox acknowledges that this is disappointing and is committed to sharing the process transparently.
In April, Paradox announced that they would refund customers who purchased the first DLC for Cities Skylines 2. The content would be added to the base game for free, as it was rushed out in an unsatisfactory state. Future paid DLC was also delayed with the console release of the game.
In June, Paradox announced plans to close the Tectonic studio following the cancellation of the Sims competitor Life by You. This development suggests that the company is reevaluating its resources and focusing on existing projects.
The console version of Cities Skylines 2 has been delayed again, which is a big disappointment for gamers. It remains unclear when the Cities Skylines 2 console version will be released.
