Citroen is withdrawing from that country! Why?

Ana sayfa / Cars

French car manufacturer Citroen came to us with sad news today. The car manufacturer, which announced that it has stopped sales in Australia, will stop selling cars in the country as of November 1, 2024. So why?

Citroen, which has been selling cars in Australia since 1923, has been present in the country’s market for exactly 101 years. However, the recent decline in sales figures is forcing Citroen to withdraw from the country. In fact, Citroen sales, which peaked in 2007, have never risen to that level again. Declining sales have taken Citroen out of the market today. Citroen will stop all sales in Australia on November 1, 2024.

The French car manufacturer, which was able to sell a total of 87 vehicles in the country in the first half of 2024, in other words, in six months, sold less than even brands such as Ferrari, Maserati, Lotus, Bentley and Aston Martin, which are burning a hole in their pockets. During this period, Maserati sold 200 cars and Ferrari sold 113. Citroen, which managed to outsell McLaren and Rolls-Royce, who sold 41 and 26 cars respectively, did not achieve the success it desired.

Citroen Australia General Manager David Owen made the following statement on the subject:

“We acknowledge and celebrate Citroen’s rich history in the Australian market. However, we must look to the future and consider the rapidly evolving, dynamic and competitive nature of the sector and local market, as well as changing consumer demands… We know that there will continue to be Citroen owners in Australia. Many Citroen vehicles are still on the road and our passionate Citroen Australia team and retail network are committed to supporting our customers’ ongoing vehicle maintenance needs.”

As can be seen from these words, Citroen is withdrawing from the Australian market for now. However, essential maintenance and repair units will continue to exist in the country. Why do you think the French car giant has sold so few cars in Australia? Let’s discuss in the comments.
