Microsoft, which is focusing on artificial intelligence, is making a major change to the Windows keyboard for the first time in nearly three decades. Windows PC keyboards will now have a Colipot key to quickly open the artificial intelligence chatbot Copilot. Let’s look at the details.
Microsoft adds Copilot key to Windows keyboard
In 1994, Microsoft added the Windows key to keyboards to open the Start menu in the Windows 95 operating system. Later, a menu key was added to the right side of the keyboard to open the context menu. Thirty years later, the company is making a major change to the keyboard, removing the menu key and introducing the Copilot key. The Copilot AI robot can now be quickly launched by pressing this key.
In some previous rumors, Microsoft was said to be working on PCs with artificial intelligence. The company is now starting to add a Copilot key to its keyboards, confirming these rumors. Microsoft’s official YouTube channel has also released a promotional video showing this.
Microsoft has notified partners and OEMs to include the Copilot key on the keyboard of Windows laptops starting later this month. The Copilot key will also be included on upcoming Surface devices. The Copilot key will be positioned next to the Alt key, which is located to the right of the spacebar on the keyboard, replacing the menu key. This means that the Copilot tool is here to stay and that AI features will become more common in the future.
However, currently in Windows 11, users can open Copilot by pressing the “Windows + C” keyboard shortcut. What do you think about the Microsoft Copilot keyboard layout?
