VGChartz, known for providing the most reliable sales figures globally, has announced the latest console sales numbers, shedding light on the current status of the console wars between PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. According to the figures, the PS5 continues to dominate its competitors.
PS5 Remains at the Top in Console Sales!
According to VGChartz’s estimates, in May 2024, the best-selling game console in the Americas (USA, Canada, and Latin America) was the PlayStation 5, with 289,885 units sold. This brings the total sales of the PlayStation 5 in the Americas to 24.31 million units.
In second place, the Nintendo Switch sold 136,494 units, increasing its total sales to 53.43 million units. The Xbox Series X|S came in third, with 131,095 units sold, bringing its total sales to 17.36 million units. The PlayStation 4, with only 918 units sold, reached a total of 41.54 million units. These figures indicate that the PS4 is slowly nearing the end of its life cycle.
These figures show that the PlayStation 5 continues to lead in the Americas. However, it has experienced a slight decline compared to the previous year. The dynamics of the game console market are influenced by various factors, including the release of new games, pricing policies, and global economic conditions. Despite criticism for a decrease in console-exclusive games, the PS5 does not seem to be losing its top position.
