As of Friday, details of the CrowdStrike crisis affecting many companies from banks to giant technology companies began to emerge. It was stated that the problem, which caused a blue screen error on Windows, also occurred on Debian and Rocky Linux servers months ago.
CrowdStrike crash problem was happening on Linux
The software update of the cyber security firm CrowdStrike recently made a big noise all over the world. Technology services were disrupted in many countries around the world, including Turkey. This raised concerns about the company’s testing and quality control practices.
An update sent to servers by CrowdStrike also caused blue screen errors on Windows computers in various industries. Many companies, including airlines, banks and health care, were crippled.
However, this crash has reportedly happened before. Users of Debian and Rocky Linux servers have reported significant problems with CrowdStrike updates in recent months. Accordingly, a CrowdStrike update released in April crashed all Debian Linux servers at the same time.
This situation, which left many companies in a difficult situation, was resolved in a short time. However, CrowdStrike admitted that the update was incompatible with the stable Debian version, despite being a supported configuration.
Similar compatibility errors were experienced by some Rocky Linux users. These incidents eventually raised questions about CrowdStrike’s software testing practices and update quality control procedures.
