Kaspersky’s cybersecurity experts have flagged multiple phishing campaigns that are circulating online. In one major scam, cybercriminals lure victims to a fake subscription site claiming to offer free access to the highly anticipated Joker sequel Joker: Folie à Deux. The catch? Users must input their credit card information to sign up. Once they do, the promised movie never appears. Instead, the fraudsters harvest their card details for illicit transactions or sell the information on the dark web.
The second wave of fraud schemes involves phishing sites that promise not just movie access, but chances to win rewards, enter fake sweepstakes, or invest in bogus ventures. Kaspersky’s investigation revealed that these sites reroute users to pages advertising “get-rich-quick” opportunities. In many cases, victims are prompted to enter personal details or submit credit card information to secure their supposed prize or investment, putting their security at even greater risk.
Kaspersky security expert Olga Svistunova emphasized that as the movie premiere draws nearer, more fans are likely to seek early access through non-legitimate channels, increasing their chances of being targeted by these scams. She strongly advised users to verify the legitimacy of the websites they visit and to use reliable antivirus software that can detect and block suspicious sites.
