BYD is preparing to unveil the Shark electric pickup at the Beijing Motor Show. New photos of the pickup truck have revealed the vehicle without camouflage for the first time. Will BYD Shark be able to compete with Tesla Cybertruck?
BYD Shark to be unveiled this week
Images emerged in Mexico reveal that the Shark will be based on the DMO modular platform developed by BYD. Designed for plug-in hybrid electric off-road vehicles, this platform promises fast torque distribution between the front and rear wheels. In this way, it enables all-wheel drive performance.
According to the information, Shark will offer 1.5 and 2.0 liter gasoline engines with an electric motor and battery pack. The vehicle has a cabin similar to the Baojun Bao 5 SUV and features a large digital instrument panel.
BYD’s Shark is planning to expand into the global market rather than the Chinese market. In this context, it aims to sell to North America, Australia, South Africa and other markets where pickup models are popular. It should be noted that the vehicle was previously tested in both right-hand and left-hand drive versions.
The performance targets of the DMO platform used in the Shark include 0-100 km/h acceleration in under 6 seconds. It is also possible to say that the vehicle will offer a combined range of 1200 km.
More details about the Shark’s powertrain, price and sales details will be shared at the Beijing Motor Show, which starts on April 25.
