Bend Studios, developer of Days Gone, the zombie-themed open-world survival and story game that has a really special place among PlayStation exclusive games, has announced that it is developing a new game. Let’s take a look at the details together.
Days Gone developer Bend Studios’ new game will be AAA
Bend Studios’ next project will be a “AAA live service” game. A new job posting on the studio’s website has revealed that the team is looking for a new lead project manager with experience of hands-on game development having published AAA live service games in leadership roles.
The role is also looking for someone with significant experience in a leadership role in transforming traditional ‘boxed product’ focused game development studios into live service development studios.
Sony’s in-house Bend Studios is best known for the post-apocalyptic motorcycle and zombie-themed Days Gone, released in 2019. The company announced in June 2022 that it was working on its next project, which would be multiplayer and improve on Days Gone’s open-world systems.
The Oregon-based studio will therefore likely contribute to Sony’s recent goals of producing more live-service games, though neither Sony nor Bend have officially confirmed this at this time.
A movie adaptation of Days Gone is also coming. Oscar nominee Sheldon Turner will pen the script and Sam Heughan, who played Jamie Fraser in Outlander, is rumored to be in consideration for the role of lead character Deacon St. John.
Examples of live service games include Helldivers 2 and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. What do you think about every new game coming out nowadays being live service? Please don’t forget to share your thoughts with us in the comments section below.
