While we wait for Half-Life 3, Valve may return with a new shooter-action game after years. The company, which has a big position in the gaming industry thanks to the Steam store, has also increased its market share with Steam Deck. New claims revealed that a game codenamed Deadlock is in development.
Valve rolls up its sleeves for Overwatch rival Deadlock
New reports from US sources have revealed a mysterious project codenamed Deadlock. Claiming to have been in development since 2018, the reports said the game began as part of the Half-Life universe. However, over time, it has managed to create its own unique sci-fi world.
Deadlock is a third-person shooter with tower defense elements. In this context, Valve is said to be working on 6-player matches. It is conducting closed alpha tests with hundreds of players to shape the multiplayer experience.
Deadlock’s maps are described as “massive battlefields divided into 4 lanes,” according to claims surfaced on X. Players will use their skills and weapons to win checkpoints. They will also be able to travel fast across the maps using rail systems.
The game’s fantasy setting will combine both magic and technology. Images showing the sci-fi world of the game have also leaked, but it should be emphasized that they have not yet been confirmed.
Although not yet announced, playtesting and years of development suggest that Deadlock may be ready. Some analysts speculate that the game could be unveiled at the Summer Game Fest on June 7th.
