Dell Pro Max 18 Plus hits hard, but heat limits its punch

Ana sayfa / Computers

The Dell Pro Max 18 Plus is a performance powerhouse; there’s no denying that. Armed with Intel’s Core Ultra 9 285HX and top-tier Nvidia graphics, this 18-inch mobile workstation aims to crush demanding tasks. But when the heat rises, that raw power doesn’t always reach its full potential.

In high-load scenarios, the Core Ultra 9 285HX inside this machine edges toward 100°C. That’s within safe thermal limits, but it’s still pushing boundaries. During stress tests like Prime95, the CPU clocks initially ramp up to 4 GHz. Unfortunately, temperatures creep upward fast, and clock speeds drop to around 3.3 GHz shortly after.

That dip isn’t catastrophic, but it does hold the processor back from sustained Turbo Boost speeds. Cooler operation could have made a real difference for heavy users, especially in rendering, simulation, or prolonged multitasking sessions.

Path of Exile 2: The Last of the Druids drops December 11, bringing a new class, fresh content, and a free weekend for all platforms.

Even with the heat throttling, performance remains excellent for short bursts. However, those looking to extract every ounce of speed might be disappointed. In a workstation this premium, sustained efficiency matters as much as raw output.

This isn’t just about horsepower. It brings features that tech-savvy users will appreciate. For one, it uses CAMM2 RAM, offering faster performance and better thermal design than traditional SODIMM. That makes upgrades smoother and keeps internal temperatures in check at least outside the CPU zone.

Notable design features include:

This is a machine built to perform, no question. But performance at this level demands better thermal control. Until Dell can tame those CPU temperatures, the Pro Max 18 Plus will remain powerful, but just shy of perfection.
