Dexter: Resurrection, which premiered on July 11th, achieved Paramount’s strongest opening for Showtime to date, generating viewership figures in its first week. The first episode, which reached a combined 3.1 million views across Paramount+ and Showtime, became the fastest-growing Showtime series, according to the company’s internal statistics.
Dexter: Resurrection has attracted significant attention
Resurrection, the newest installment in the Dexter universe, is a direct sequel to both the original Dexter series and the 2021 release of Dexter: New Blood. With three episodes already released, the series has significantly surpassed previous installments in both content and popularity. Initial data indicates that Resurrection has been 46 percent more watched than Dexter: Original Sin and 79 percent more watched than Dexter: New Blood.
The series’ performance wasn’t limited to Resurrection alone. With the new installment, audience interest has shifted towards the Dexter universe in general. Paramount reported a 132 percent increase in total viewership for other Dexter series during the week of Resurrection’s release. This increase demonstrates that the strategy behind the recent spate of Dexter projects is paying off.
Dexter: Resurrection is also notable for its cast. Michael C. Hall returns as Dexter Morgan, joined by Uma Thurman, Peter Dinklage, Neil Patrick Harris, Krysten Ritter, Eric Stonestreet, and David Dastmalchian.
The series also features returning characters from the series. David Zayas (Angel Batista), James Remar (Harry Morgan), Jack Alcott (Harrison Morgan), John Lithgow (Trinity Killer), and Jimmy Smits (Miguel Prado) return to the screen for Resurrection.
The series’ first three episodes, both in terms of viewership ratings and the returning cast, have demonstrated its continued vitality, both for viewers seeking nostalgia and new stories.
