The era of sharing accounts for Disney+ is coming to an end
The number of digital streaming platforms has increased significantly in the past few years. Among them, Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max, and Prime Video stand out. However, having multiple platforms requires separate payments for each one to access the desired content.
This is not well-received, and users resort to using shared accounts to pay less money. As a result, companies incur significant losses. According to recent developments, Disney is implementing a restriction on account sharing, similar to Netflix.
In fact, it was already known that account sharing would be blocked for Disney+. The company’s CEO had already made a statement about this. Today, however, it has emerged that the company has sent an informative email to users.
According to the information provided, Hulu, another digital streaming platform owned by The Walt Disney Company, sent an email to its users stating that limitations on sharing accounts with people outside the home will be implemented.
“You might ask, what does Hulu have to do with Disney+?” Someone who thinks the same way as you asked Disney if the same situation would apply to Disney+. Unfortunately, the company announced that it would indeed apply.
Accordingly, Disney+ users will not be able to share their account passwords with people outside their homes as of March 14. Sharing will continue to be allowed with people in the same household. At this point, the company stated that a more detailed explanation would be provided soon.
There is information that if account sharing is done in violation of the rules, access to the service may be restricted, or even the account may be closed. A Netflix-like system is expected to be introduced.
It is not yet known whether the new application will be launched first in certain countries or simultaneously worldwide. In this context, it remains uncertain whether it will be implemented in our country on March 14. This question will be answered in the detailed announcement to be made soon.
The era of sharing accounts for Disney+ is coming to an end Disney+ has been in service since November 2019 and has reportedly incurred $11 billion in losses to date. The biggest factor in this loss is sharing accounts with people outside the home. In this context, it is not surprising that the company made such a decision.
