Bethesda and Id Software unveiled the next game in the Doom series at the Xbox Games Showcase. Doom: The Dark Ages will be the predecessor to 2016’s Doom and 2020’s Doom Eternal. Here are the platforms and release date for The Dark Ages.
Doom: The Dark Ages release date
The Dark Ages will tell the origin story of Doom Slayer. Players will not only face familiar enemies, but also new threats. Combat will take place with destructible enemies and melee attacks.
The Doom Slayer will also be able to use various machines during battle. These include the Mechanical Dragon, which can be used to rain fire from above, and the Atlan mech, which packs a massive punch. New weapons were also introduced, such as the throwable Shield Saw.
Id Software developed the new game with the idTech game engine. The Dark Ages will focus on a story-driven single-player experience and will launch in 2025 for PC, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5. It will also be available on Game Pass on launch day.
It seems interesting that the game is set in the Middle Ages. This marks a radical change for the series set in a futuristic sci-fi universe. Accordingly, The Dark Ages will focus on the main character’s life during the Middle Ages.
Bringing a breath of fresh air to the series with its medieval touch, The Dark Ages seems to bring the dark fantasy world back to the agenda. After four years of waiting, it looks like it will be full of action in 2025.
