Battlefield 7 Will Be Set in the Modern Era
In an interview with IGN, Vince Zampella, head of EA’s Respawn studio and manager of the Battlefield series, shared exciting details about the upcoming game. Zampella confirmed that Battlefield 7 will return to the franchise’s roots and be set in a modern-day environment.
Instead of the massive 128-player maps featured in Battlefield 2042, the new game will focus on more compact and well-designed areas. Zampella stated, “It’s not about having 128 players just for the sake of it. What matters to us is the fun factor,” emphasizing a return to the more traditional approach seen in earlier Battlefield titles.
The controversial Specialist system from Battlefield 2042, which was widely criticized, will not be returning in Battlefield 7. Zampella explained, “The system didn’t work, and it didn’t fit. Specialists won’t be coming back. The class system is at the core of Battlefield, and we’re going back to that.”
EA has made significant changes in the development process of the new Battlefield. The company has assembled its largest-ever Battlefield development team, with multiple studios contributing simultaneously to the project, including EA Motive, DICE, Criterion, and Ripple Effect.
